Thing 6 Flickr Mashups
I'm going to try to spell out our boat name(from Thing 5) using letters on butterfly wings. Why? Because I like them even if they're not necessarily water related. I'll comment more after I see how it goes. Ok, that didn't work. I'll try a more straightforward method using Flickr images.

Thing 5 Flickr

I think I was able to upload a picture from a website but I did not find it straightforward at all. I guess I just don't read and follow directions very good. I kept trying to upload the picture before I clicked on the agreement button(it should be placed before the upload step for us dummies).
The photo is of the sailboat my husband and I owned for 10 years and lived on full-time for 5 of those years. She is now for sale again and has been repainted so doesn't look like our white-hulled "Voyageur". We recognized her as our former boat because we had a custom fireplace and dining table installed at the time as shown in the other pictures which I was not successful in uploading-----yet.

Thing 4
Ok, I finally added some news sites and blog sites to my Google Reader RSS account. I haven't used it enough yet to see if it will be very useful. I'm not the type that spends a lot of time reading blogs except to skim the info quickly. That's how I chose my news feeds as those that have enough headline info for me to decide if I want more content or not. I used Google Reader and found it easy to use. I did not try anything else.

Thing 3: Blog Search Tools
I found the Google Blog Search by far faster, with more relevant(as in timely) results than Technorati. I also found it easier to navigate but probably because I'm so used to the Google format. I also liked the fact that the Google page wasn't cluttered up with all the ads that were displayed on the other site.
The Google search also brought up far more entries-94k vs 460 which may/may not be a good thing.

Thing 2: What is Web 2.0
Time is indeed a big issue, especially for this thing2. I cannot read all the info in my off-desk time much less respond to it. Hopefully future ones will be less time intensive or I'll have to do this at home and not on work hours.
I am trying to accomplish the 23 things so I can be more "with it" in terms of technology and gizmos(my generic name for all those devices and procedures patrons ask me about that cause me to give them a blank stare in return). I also hope to find some things that I can use to make my internet use more efficient both at work and at home.
So, to me Web 2.0 is a change in the way I present information to my questioning patrons that better reflects how they "hear" and "see" and "comprehend" such information.

Thing 1:Set up a Blog and Register
My first try setting up my blog was frustrating: those squiggly letters they ask you to copy are close to impossible to read so that took numerous attempts. Then, once I passed that hurdle the system slowed to such a slow crawl that I had to shut down to get to my desk position on time. 3rd time successful though!!
